Health Tips - Sickle cell anemia

Sickle cell anemia mainly affects people of African descent but the disease is also prevalent in many Spanish speaking regions of the world such as South America, Cuba, Central America and to a lesser extent in the Mediterranean countries. One in twelve African Americans carries the sickle cell trait; approximately one in four hundred African American newborn have sickle cell anemia.
